Hospital Discounted Care
Hospital Discounted Care – Helping You Afford Your Medical Bills
What is Hospital Discounted Care?
Hospital Discounted Care (HDC) is a Colorado law designed to make hospital bills more affordable for individuals and families with lower incomes. If your household income is at or below 250% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines (about $3,260/month for an individual or $6,697/month for a family of four), you may qualify for reduced hospital charges and manageable payment plans
Who Can Apply?
You may qualify for Hospital Discounted Care if:
- You are uninsured or underinsured
- You have insurance, but still struggle to pay your bills
- You are not a U.S. citizen or have immigration concerns (citizenship is not required)
What Are Your Rights?
- Hospitals must screen you for eligibility for discounted care and public programs, such as Medicaid or CHP+.
- You have the right to apply for financial help and receive a decision within 21 days.
- If approved, your bills will be limited, and you’ll be offered a monthly payment plan based on your income.
- You won’t owe more after 36 monthly payments or once the discounted amount is paid in full.
- All communication must be provided in your preferred language.
How to Apply
- Ask the hospital’s billing or financial assistance office to screen you for Hospital Discounted Care.
- Submit an application with proof of income and household size.
- Follow up to ensure your application is processed within the required timeframe.
